AJAH TEEN INITIATIVE 2020

We are excited to introduce our 2020 Art Program!

With growth and experience, we recognize the importance of art in school.

Resulting from our recent sponsorship of Shadowlawn Elementary School at our 2019 Ajala Charitable Art Show, we uncovered a significant absence of meaningful instruction in the Arts within our local schools. For example, at Shadowlawn Art Instructors are shared. This relegates Art classes to only two each week. While we understand that traditional academics must be prioritized in the school’s finances, we also know that it is important to nurture and inspire talent and individual gifts in all forms.

We were moved to fill in the gap by providing music and art instruction for students between the ages of 12 to 18-year-old who attend schools within our shared community. As such, we are partnering with Artists that work in a variety of art media who have the skills and certification to teach. Our initial focus will be introductory music instruction, specifically guitar, piano, drums and voice lessons that ensure diverse cultural expressions.

With your help, we will provide up to twelve teens with 12 one-hour sessions of tutoring in music. We believe that this project will create opportunities, inspire creativity, and improve academic abilities. Once this pilot program is complete, we intend to increase the number of students that we serve. We will target at-risk youth who share a desire to take advantage of all the program’s offerings. This project will be administered through local Schools, City Recreation Centers, and Community Libraries.

To achieve this goal, we will need to acquire the necessary instruments as well as secure tuition, and nominal space rental fees. Our starting targeted financial goal is $7,500.
